Labour Room

About Labour Room

A Labour Room is a specialised clinical environment designed to support safe, monitored childbirth for both mother and baby.

Overview

Care within the Labour Room follows a structured, vigilant obstetric protocol:

Step 1: Admission & Maternal Assessment
Expectant mothers are admitted based on labour onset, medical indication, or referral. Initial evaluation includes obstetric history, fetal assessment, cervical examination, and baseline vitals.

Step 2: Monitoring of Mother & Baby
Continuous fetal heart rate monitoring, uterine contraction assessment, maternal blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen levels are closely observed to ensure maternal and fetal wellbeing.

Step 3: Active Labour Management
Labour progression is monitored using evidence-based protocols. Pain management options—including epidural analgesia—are administered when required. Obstetricians and anaesthesiologists remain on standby.

Step 4: Safe Delivery & Immediate Newborn Care
Delivery is conducted under strict aseptic precautions. Immediate newborn assessment, APGAR scoring, thermal care, and neonatal stabilisation are provided.

Step 5: Post-Delivery Observation & Transition
Mother and baby are observed for stability. Postpartum monitoring includes bleeding assessment, uterine contraction evaluation, breastfeeding initiation, and transfer to recovery or postnatal ward.
